At the AV ART CLUB we offer artists like YOU a place to explore their artistic voice. Choose the classes you want to attend. Whichever class you choose, you will learn specific art techniques and create artwork from start to finish in each individual session. Classes are led by local artists. You’ll receive the full artist experience with the option to show and sell your artwork in the Young Imaginations Gallery at Arts Visalia. FULL and PARTIAL SCHOLARSHIPS available!

Youth Art Classes
We offer art classes in the Spring (March, April, May) in the Summer (June, July), and in the Fall (Oct, Nov, Dec). The Adult Workshops for ages 16 and up will be scheduled throughout the year.
AV Art Club for Artists ages 14-17

Oil Painting Learn the basics of working with oil paints. You’ll be introduced to the color wheel and basic color theory as you create your own color wheel with the color palette provided. You’ll get a chance to use your knowledge and skills to create a still life painting. Instructor: Miguel Pulido Cost: $20 each session |

Hand-building with Clay Learn the basics of working with clay while you create a small basket or dish. You will use underglazes to add color, and tools to create unique carvings. Your finished piece will be fired in a kiln to become ceramic artwork. Instructor: Fabiola Javier Cost: $20 each session

Adult Workshops for Artists ages 16 and up
Lampworking – Glass Bead Making Workshop
Learn the art of Lampworking. In this workshop you’ll be mesmerized by the properties of glass as you create unique glass beads. You’ll view demonstrations of different techniques and you’ll be provided with the tools to practice those techniques. Most of your beads will be ready to be taken home that same day. Glass beads can be used to create jewelry, home décor or even garden décor.

Relief Printing – Woodcut Printmaking Workshop
Learn the art of Relief Printing. In this workshop you’ll learn to cut away parts of a wood printing surface to create a raised design. You’ll view demonstrations of different techniques and you’ll be provided with the tools to practice those techniques. Using a printing press, you’ll get to print your design on different types of paper. The wood block you’ll be carving will be 7 x 9 in. There will be black and white picture printouts for you to select from, but feel free to bring your own!

Relief Printing – Woodcut Printmaking on Fabric! Workshop
Learn the art of Relief Printing on Fabric! In this workshop you’ll learn the same techniques taught in our previous relief printing classes but you’ll get the opportunity to print your designs on fabric with special ink! Bring your own fabric products such as totes, bandanas, or clothing (natural fibers will work best). You’ll create a new relief print in class but feel free to bring the designs you created in our previous classes as well!

Class size: 9 participants maximum
